- Former Minister of Transport Jamshitbek Kalilov stated on a radio program that the road infrastructure of Kyrgyzstan does not meet current requirements for axle load and does not comply with the standards of the Eurasian Economic Union countries.
He noted that when Kyrgyzstan joined the EEU, the participants of the agreement agreed on the necessity of aligning national standards with the unified requirements of the union, especially in the area of axle load for vehicles.
Kalilov also reminded that 15 years ago there were no forecasts that heavy transport weighing 50–60 tons would be moving on the roads of Kyrgyzstan. Meanwhile, the new roads currently being constructed are designed for an axle load of only 11.5 tons. At the same time, the permissible load in Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Russia has already reached 13 tons, he added.
“The parameter of 11.5 tons is not the limit. Work on transitioning to 13 tons needs to start now; otherwise, this could lead to serious problems in the future,” emphasized the former minister.
He also noted that even the reconstructed and alternative roads in Kyrgyzstan continue to be designed for 11.5 tons, as such parameters were established in previously signed documents.
