A temporary ban on the export of used catalysts has been introduced in Kyrgyzstan.

The ban concerns the export of catalysts, as well as slags and residues of precious metals, which is related to the protection of public health and the environment, as well as reducing air pollution from vehicle exhausts.

Catalysts, being one of the most expensive components of a vehicle's exhaust system, can account for up to 13% of the vehicle's value. This has led to an increase in cases of theft and removal of catalysts from cars for the purpose of further sale.
