At a national meeting in "Yntymak Ordo," President Sadyr Japarov announced the successful modernization of the Toktogul HPP, which has allowed for an increase in its capacity by 240 megawatts.
The head of state noted that the hydroelectric power stations in the country were in critical technical condition when their modernization began. Most of them, including the Toktogul HPP, were built in the 1950s to 1970s and had not undergone significant updates for many years, despite providing the country with electricity for over half a century.
"In the last four years, large-scale renovations have been implemented. Four units at the Toktogul HPP have been completely updated, which has made it possible to increase capacity by 240 megawatts," the president added.
He also reported on the construction and launch of 28 new small hydroelectric power stations in the country. Without timely and systematic measures, Kyrgyzstan could have faced a shortage of electricity and significant economic constraints. After the modernization is completed, the Toktogul HPP will be able to operate reliably for another 50–60 years, contributing to the energy security of the state.
It should be noted that the meeting in "Yntymak Ordo" was dedicated to summarizing the results for 2025 and was attended by President Sadyr Japarov.
