Today's publication from the "Folk Legends" series is dedicated to the Kuzu-Baglan River.

This river is located in the Leilek district of the Batken region.

Tairbek Abdiashim uulu, a local resident, shared a story explaining the origin of the river's name:

“Many years ago, there lived a tribe near one of the river's tributaries. Among them was a hunter with a kind heart who never preyed on pregnant animals and their young. One day, while hunting, he noticed a pregnant sheep among a herd of argali. As soon as he approached, the argali began to flee, but the sheep stayed behind. Taking advantage of the situation, the hunter caught the sheep and brought her home. Soon, the sheep gave birth to a strong lamb. From the moment of its birth, everything in the hunter's house began to change for the better: the children did not get sick, and the livestock increased. The hunter's children and his dog often played with the lamb.

One day, the hunter's daughter took the lamb away to have fun with it. At that moment, a golden eagle soaring in the sky grabbed the lamb and tried to carry it away. The hunter, noticing this, shot his bow and hit the eagle, which, releasing the lamb, dropped it into the river. At that time, the dog barked, and the mother sheep began to bleat, following along the river. Milk from her udder flowed into the river, mixing with the water and forming foam. The current carried away the well-fed lamb, and the river was named “Kuzu-Baglan” (which means young, well-fed lamb).
