President Sadyr Japarov discussed a draft law regarding the reduction of state awards at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.
Deputy Kamila Talieva proposed to reinstate the award "People's Teacher" and to retain "El akyny," noting that many teachers and doctors would prefer to receive awards directly from the president's hands.
As Japarov reported, the work on revising state awards was initiated by him back in 2021. He noted that in the past, awards were often given formally, for money, or for insignificant achievements, while true veterans, teachers, and doctors remained unrecognized.
“We have corrected this; now we award all those who deserve it. Previously, the number of awardees sometimes reached 150–300 people at once,” he added.
Out of the 47 types of awards that previously existed, Japarov stated that the plan is to reduce their number to 20, in order to eliminate formality and enhance the significance of each award.
The president also pointed out that the parliament has the opportunity to make amendments to the draft law, regulating the number of awards based on necessity.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of the prompt adoption of laws that directly affect the work of the government and the economic development of the country.
