The Universiade, organized for higher education institutions, was opened at the Gazprom sports complex, as reported by the Bishkek city hall.
Present at the solemn ceremony were Nurlan Toichubekov, rectors of various universities, and students.
The competitions will take place in two leagues: the Higher League and League I, where students will compete in 15 different sports.
Teams that place in the top positions will receive diplomas, medals, and trophies of corresponding degrees.
The registration for the Universiade started in Bishkek was first published on the K-News website.
