The village of Jeñish, formerly known as Chychkan, is located in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region, 10 km from Jargylchak.

Local residents also refer to it as "Sary kyzdyn torkünü".

The first wave of settlers arrived here in the first half of the 20th century.

“Janadil Umarov and Tümönbay Karachev were among the first settlers. Baigazy Isabekov, who became the first bolush (volost manager), is known as 'bala bolush Baigazy' [bolush - child of Baigazy]. At the age of 14, he took this position and quickly gained the trust of the local residents due to his humanity and generosity. Later, he was dispossessed, and he was buried in Orenburg,” local residents share.

According to their stories, barley was originally grown on the rain-fed land in the upper part of the village of Chychkan, but a large number of mice interfered with the harvest. This became the reason for the name of the settlement: chychkan — "mouse".

There is another legend about a man named Chychkan, who led one of the Kalmyk tribes.

According to another version, the name originated from the word "sychkan," which changed in pronunciation and means "wealth".

Primarily, local residents engage in the cultivation of apples and apricots.

Unfortunately, this spring, frosts nearly destroyed the apricot harvest.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, the village was named Jeñish [Victory].

The village has become the homeland of the Hero of Socialist Labor Kalys Namazbekov and several scholars.

The village is located along the Bishkek—Karakol highway at an altitude of 1632 m above sea level and has approximately 700 households.
