A representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Tarik Jazarevic, informed RIA Novosti about the potential threat of the spread of the Nipah virus. He noted that this is related to the insufficient study of this disease.
Jazarevic emphasized that the source of the infection remains unclear. In particular, he pointed to the presence of a reservoir for the Nipah virus in bat populations that inhabit certain regions of India and Bangladesh, including West Bengal.
According to him, it is important to raise awareness among the population about the risks associated with the consumption of palm sap.
