According to data presented by the staff of the Ombudsman Institute during monitoring, more than 200 cases of cancer among children are recorded annually in Kyrgyzstan. This information was announced in the children's oncology department of the National Center for Oncology and Hematology (NCOMH) located in Bishkek.
As of the end of August 2025, about 60 young patients suffering from oncological and oncohematological diseases were receiving treatment in the department. The agency notes that there is a constant increase in new cases of childhood cancer: while about 70 new cases were registered in 2014, since 2023 this number has exceeded 200.
The most common diagnoses among children remain acute lymphoblastic leukemia, brain tumors, as well as neuroblastoma and nephroblastoma.
Experts from the Ombudsman Institute indicate that the increase in the number of cases is related not only to the rise in incidence but also to improvements in diagnostic methods and the detection of diseases.
Human rights defenders emphasize the need to expand state support for the children's oncology service, improve diagnostic capabilities, and ensure access to quality and timely treatment for all patients.
