In Kyrgyzstan, there are 8,000 registered cases of glaucoma: how to preserve vision in time

In Kyrgyzstan, there are about 8,000 registered cases of glaucoma; however, according to specialists, the actual number of people with this disease may be significantly higher. This information was announced at the Bishkek Center for Health Promotion.

Glaucoma is an eye disease characterized by increased intraocular pressure, which can lead to partial or complete vision loss.

Risk factors include:

The symptoms of glaucoma often develop gradually: vision may become blurred, the field of vision narrows, and rainbow circles may appear around light sources.
Sometimes an acute attack of glaucoma can occur, during which vision deteriorates sharply, severe pain in the eye arises, which may radiate to the temple area, and nausea and vomiting may also occur. In such situations, immediate medical assistance is required.

Specialists emphasize that in the early stages, glaucoma may progress without pronounced symptoms.
The Bishkek Center for Health Promotion strongly recommends conducting an annual check of intraocular pressure, which should not exceed 20 mm Hg.
