Strong solar flares possible on January 26-27

According to a report by TASS, citing the Institute of Applied Geophysics, strong flares of the penultimate class (M) may occur on the Sun on January 26 and 27.

The institute clarified that solar activity will generally be at a low level during these days, however, M-class flares cannot be ruled out.

Solar flares are classified into five categories: A, B, C, M, and X, depending on the level of X-ray radiation. The lowest class, A0.0, corresponds to a power of 10 nanowatts per square meter in Earth's orbit. As the class increases, the power increases tenfold. Flares are often accompanied by solar plasma ejections, which, upon reaching Earth, can cause magnetic storms.
