The vehicle lost control and crashed into a building, hitting pedestrians and damaging a storefront. According to rescuers, there are currently two reported fatalities, and about 40 people were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
In connection with the incident, the Milan prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into the case of involuntary manslaughter. Initial findings from experts indicate that there was a "high-speed collision."
According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, this tram, model Tramlink, began its operation in Milan just a few weeks ago. Among the possible causes of the accident are a sudden deterioration in the driver's health or a malfunction of the switch mechanism. 13:42
