A member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, announced that the country is in the final stages of selecting a new Supreme Leader. This statement was made as part of a message published by the Lenta.ru agency and the Iranian news agency IRIB News on their Telegram channel.
“We are on the verge of determining a new Supreme Leader; however, it is important to note that a state of emergency has been declared in the country,” Khatami added.
He also noted that the Assembly of Experts has already identified potential candidates for this important position.
Earlier, the Iran International news agency reported that under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Assembly of Experts has likely chosen Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the current Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the next candidate for this position. However, no official confirmation of this appointment has been received yet.
