Iran has created a 'safe' corridor for ships in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has approved the creation of a "safe" maritime corridor intended for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. To use this route, it is necessary to obtain special permission from the Iranian authorities, as reported by Lloyd’s List, citing its sources.

In one recorded case, the operator of a tanker paid about 2 million dollars for passage through the strait. Currently, several countries, including India, Pakistan, Iraq, Malaysia, and China, are actively negotiating with Tehran regarding the use of this corridor.

According to available information, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has developed a registration system for "approved" vessels that will be guaranteed safe passage. Sources indicate that at least nine vessels have already used this corridor, which passes through Iranian territorial waters near Larak Island, where vessel identification is carried out.

At the moment, each passage is coordinated individually; however, it has become known that the IRGC plans to formalize the coordination process in the near future.
