Major General Ibrahim Jabari confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is closed to ships, threatening their destruction, as reported by Al Jazeera.
According to him, "oil prices have reached $81, and the world expects them to rise to $200. We will not allow any ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The heroes of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Navy, and the army are ready to set fire to any vessels that attempt to violate this ban," he said in an interview on state television.
Jabari also noted that Iran will attack pipelines in the region and will not allow the export of oil until pressure is applied to the adversary. He mentioned that "Americans have debts in the hundreds of thousands of billions of dollars and need oil from this region, but they will not get a drop."
The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for oil exports from Persian Gulf countries. Following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East, Iranian media reported that vessels in the strait are receiving notifications from the IRGC about the closure of the maritime corridor. According to Reuters, at least 150 tankers are currently waiting in open water. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi assured on March 2 that Tehran does not intend to close the strait.
