Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian Federation is ready to support the stabilization of the situation in the Middle East. This statement was made during a phone conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on March 2. Details of this conversation were covered in a report by Anadolu.
The Kremlin's press service informed that serious and tragic events occurring in the Middle East were discussed during the conversation.
The leaders emphasized the importance of an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations.
Putin also noted that Russia has made a significant contribution to the peaceful resolution of the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program and has sought to find acceptable compromises. The Emirati side has also actively participated in these efforts. "However, the results achieved were disrupted as a result of unwarranted aggression against a sovereign state, which constitutes a violation of the foundations of international law," the statement said.
Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his efforts to assist Russian citizens in the Emirates, including tourists who found themselves in difficult situations.
The UAE President, in turn, noted that Iran's retaliatory actions directly affect the Emirates, creating threats to civilians and causing damage to the country.
He emphasized that such strikes occur despite the fact that the territory of the UAE is not used for attacks on Iran, and therefore they are unwarranted.
Putin confirmed his readiness to convey these signals to Tehran and offered possible assistance in stabilizing the situation in the region.
The leaders agreed on the necessity of maintaining constant contact.
Later, Putin also discussed the situation with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both interlocutors expressed concern about the potential expansion of the conflict in the Middle East. "There was hope expressed that Iran's retaliatory actions do not harm peaceful civilians and civilian infrastructure in neighboring countries, including tourist and transport facilities," the Kremlin's press service added.
The Emir of Qatar thanked the countries of the region for their support in this difficult situation and confirmed that cooperation with Russia in various fields remains a priority for Doha. Putin and Al Thani expressed hope for a quick de-escalation of the conflict and a return to diplomatic methods of resolving issues.
According to the Kremlin's press service, Putin also had a phone conversation with the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, where the parties exchanged views on the escalation of the situation surrounding Iran. It became clear that the region is on the brink of a full-scale conflict.
"The consequences of the aggression by the USA and Israel were discussed, which brings the entire region at risk of a full-scale war with unpredictable consequences," the statement noted.
Putin and the King of Bahrain agreed on the necessity of an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Middle East to return to diplomatic approaches. "Both sides emphasized the importance of an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further escalation of the situation and to return it to a political-diplomatic track. The current developments threaten the security of many Arab countries with which Russia maintains friendly relations," the statement said.
