According to Al Jazeera, the Pentagon informed Congress that there is no evidence of Iran's plans for a first strike against the United States.
As reported by Reuters, representatives of the Trump administration informed Congress that prior to the U.S.-Israeli attacks, which resulted in the elimination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, there were no indicators of Iran preparing to attack the U.S.
During closed briefings, Pentagon officials told lawmakers that Iranian ballistic missiles and proxy forces pose an immediate threat to American interests, but acknowledged the lack of intelligence indicating Tehran's intention to strike first against U.S. forces, the agency reported based on information from two informants.
The report expresses doubt about previous statements from Trump administration officials claiming there were signs of a possible "preventive" strike by Iran against American troops.
Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani denied information from American media that he had resumed attempts to initiate nuclear negotiations with Washington.
“We are not going to negotiate with the United States,” he wrote in his message on X.
This statement was a response to a publication by The Wall Street Journal that Larijani had initiated negotiations through intermediaries from Oman after Khamenei's assassination.
