Trump added that he is open to further negotiations but cannot guarantee that they will take place anytime soon. "I don't know. They want negotiations, but I said, 'You should have talked last week, not this week,'" the president emphasized.
Address to the American People
March 1 became the day when Trump once again addressed the nation, vowing to "avenge" the deaths of three American soldiers and announcing a new ultimatum for Tehran. This address was the second in two days, as noted by the Daily Mail.Earlier that same day, in an interview with The Atlantic, Trump accused Iranian authorities of delaying negotiations for too long. He noted that some of the Iranian negotiators that the U.S. had contacted in recent weeks had died due to attacks. "They could have made a deal. They should have done it earlier. They were too clever," the president added.
U.S. and Israel Cooperation Against Iran
On February 28, Israel and the U.S. struck Tehran and other targets in Iranian territory. Trump stated his intention to destroy Iran's nuclear program and urged the Iranian army to lay down their arms, suggesting that the population take their fate into their own hands. In response, Iran attacked Israeli and other regional targets. The U.S. Central Command reported on February 28 that the damage to American facilities in the Middle East was "minimal and did not affect the course of operations." However, on March 1, it became known that three American servicemen were killed and five were seriously injured as a result of Iranian attacks.
On the second day of the joint operation by Israel and the U.S., the Iranian side confirmed that among those killed in the strikes was the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as several high-ranking military officials, including Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohammad Pakpour.
