U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with The Atlantic that the new Iranian leadership has reached out to him with a request to resume negotiations.

“They want to discuss issues, and I agree to that. They should have done this earlier; it would have been easy and logical. They waited too long,” Trump commented.

He did not specify when these negotiations might begin. “Most of those we interacted with are no longer in power. Some of them left because it was a significant blow. They could have made a deal earlier. They should have done this earlier; they got too caught up,” Trump added.

In a conversation with CNBC, the president stated that U.S. operations in Iran are “ahead of schedule.” “Currently, events are developing very positively,” he noted.

At the same time, in an interview with Fox News, Trump also expressed that if the U.S. and Israel had not started a confrontation with Iran, “they might have had nuclear weapons within two weeks.” “Then all of this would have been impossible,” he added.

Before the military actions began on February 28, U.S. and Iranian representatives were negotiating regarding the Iranian nuclear program, where the U.S. insisted on halting Iran's nuclear developments.

As a result of a joint strike by Israel and the U.S., the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed.
