Local residents report that the severe frosts have a significant impact on their daily lives. It becomes especially cold early in the morning and late in the evening, leading to an increased demand for warmth.
According to the residents of Naryn, power outages become an additional challenge in such conditions.
The At-Bashinsky district, located in the south of the Naryn region, is considered one of the coldest places in the region, known for its harsh nature. It is surrounded by the Baybiche-Tuu, Naryn-Tuu, and Zhaman-Tuu ridges to the north, and by the Torugart-Tuu and Kokshaak-Tuu to the south. Majestic mountains, such as Peak Dankov, which reaches an altitude of 5982 meters, sharply contrast with the valleys, where elevation changes range from 2000 to 3800 meters.
The climate in At-Bash is characterized by extreme harshness. Temperatures in the valleys can drop to -30 °C, in the mountains to -45 °C, and the maximum temperature in the Ak-Sai intermountain basin has reached -54 °C. This place has earned the title of the "pole of cold" in Kyrgyzstan, as the lowest temperature in the country, -56.3 °C, has been recorded here.
