In 2025, the licenses of 35 pawnshops in Kyrgyzstan were suspended, as reported to the Kabar agency by Suyorkul Ashimzhan uulu, head of the Financial Market Regulation and Supervision Service.

He noted that in the event of violations identified under the Code of Offenses, penalties are applied to the pawnshops. If illegal activities continue, stricter measures may be taken, including the revocation of licenses.

“After the legislation was updated, the interest rates set by pawnshops cannot exceed 30%. If they violate this requirement or set arbitrary rates, unscheduled inspections are conducted. If violations are confirmed, fines are imposed, and in the case of ongoing illegal activities, measures up to the revocation of licenses may be taken,” he added.

According to the regulator's data, about 40 pawnshops were inspected last year, resulting in fines and issued directives. The largest fine amounted to 310,000 soms.

Suyorkul Ashimzhan uulu also clarified that in 2025, the licenses of 35 pawnshops were suspended, and most of the identified violations were rectified within 30 days.

It is worth noting that the head of the State National Security Committee, Kamchybek Tashiev, previously demanded that all pawnshops be thoroughly checked. According to him, inspections should be conducted jointly with employees of the Tax Service and the National Bank.
