In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, the implementation of the public transport renewal and expansion program continues. The city’s head, Aibek Junushaliev, shared information about the current state and future purchases in a podcast by the agency "Kabar".
According to data obtained in 2021, Bishkek needs approximately 2500 buses to ensure quality passenger service. Currently, about 1436 vehicles are operating on the routes.
Aibek Junushaliev noted that the shortage of buses is particularly acute during morning and evening rush hours. He emphasized that it is impractical to endlessly increase the number of buses, as this could lead to traffic jams on the roads. "It is unacceptable for 10-20 buses to be at one stop at the same time. We are working on optimizing the schedule to increase the number of vehicles during peak hours while maintaining time intervals," he explained.
Additionally, the mayor announced that in 2026, it is planned to purchase over 600 new "short buses."
