In the southern region, approximately 2,000 new cases of oncology are recorded annually.
During a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the condition of the Osh Interregional Oncology Center, which serves the southern part of the country, was addressed by deputy Bekmurza Ergeshov.
According to him, about 6,400 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in Kyrgyzstan each year, of which nearly 2,000 are registered in the southern regions. At the same time, the Osh Oncology Center continues to operate in a building that does not meet modern standards. Since 2010, it has been located in the premises of a former kindergarten, as the previous building was deemed unsafe.
Ergeshov also pointed out the lack of linear accelerators—key equipment for radiation therapy, which is needed by about 85% of cancer patients. In addition, the outdated material and technical base of the institution requires serious updating.
The deputy noted that to solve this problem, it is necessary to create a new oncology center with 200 beds. He emphasized that the land for construction has already been prepared, but the issue is still unresolved.
