Patients with myeloleukemia from across the country are forced to travel to Bishkek for medication

A deputy proposed to improve access to an important medication in the south of the country

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Zhyldyz Egenberdieva raised an important issue regarding the availability of the medication "Gleevec" for patients with chronic myeloleukemia.

According to her information, since 2004, more than 500 cases of chronic myeloleukemia have been recorded in Kyrgyzstan, of which about 90% are adult patients and 10% are children. The medication "Gleevec" is necessary for continuous use and is supplied to the country through a humanitarian program organized by the European Max Foundation through the National Center for Oncology and Hematology.

However, currently, all patients, regardless of their place of residence, have to come to Bishkek every month to obtain the medication. This incurs significant costs for travel, accommodation, and food, which can reach 15,000-20,000 soms.

In this regard, the deputy proposed to organize the distribution of "Gleevec" at the Osh Regional Oncology Center or at the hematology department of the Osh Interregional Unified Hospital, to facilitate access to the medication for patients from the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.
