At today's meeting, the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh discussed and supported in the second reading amendments to a number of legislative acts aimed at achieving gender equality.

This draft law was developed by a group of deputies from the previous convocation. One of the key provisions is the amendment to the Law "On the Cabinet of Ministers," which stipulates that when nominating candidates for the composition of the cabinet, the share of representatives of one gender should not exceed 70 percent.

A similar requirement is introduced for the selection of judges for the Constitutional, Supreme, and local courts. Current legislation already includes a provision on gender representation when appointing judges, but it only applies in cases where the number of judges is five or more.

The provision that no more than 70 percent of representatives of one gender should be appointed as mayors and akims of cities, as well as when entering public service, is also included in the draft law.

In addition, the draft law includes provisions for protection against violence and harassment in the workplace, ensuring equal pay for men and women, as well as the introduction of gender audits in government agencies. These measures are aimed at achieving equal representation of both genders in various structures.
