This winter, Bishkek was noted several times in the "green zone" for air quality, according to the speaker of the parliament.
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the speaker emphasized that the Bishkek city hall made significant efforts this season to reduce smog in the capital, and this should be acknowledged.
He noted that for the first time in several years, winter Bishkek found itself in the "green zone" several times based on air quality indicators, which are determined by the level of pollutants in the atmosphere. The lower the concentration of harmful particles, the higher the category—from hazardous to green, which is considered safe for health.
"Honestly, this year we did not observe the usual thick smog as in previous years. The city authorities analyzed the situation, took measures, and employed various approaches, which are already yielding results. We should be able to say thank you for real outcomes," the speaker noted.
However, he also added that the smog problem is not completely resolved, and air pollution is still felt. Nevertheless, compared to previous years, the situation has significantly improved, and work on further improvements continues.
