The SCO Discusses a Unified Currency for the Organization

The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Nurlan Ermekbaev, shared his opinion on the possibility of introducing a unified currency for the member states. His comments were published by RIA Novosti.

Ermekbaev noted that currently, the issue of creating a unified currency is not on the SCO agenda. The main focus is on developing a flexible and diverse payment system that will take into account the needs of the member states and promote the development of trade and economic ties.

It is worth noting that in December of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin also stated that the creation of a unified currency is not being considered within the BRICS framework. He emphasized that such a process should occur gradually to avoid serious mistakes.
