In Kyrgyzstan, there is a significant increase in the use of video surveillance and facial recognition systems, which are becoming an important tool for enhancing public safety.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, cameras installed in places of mass gatherings contribute to the rapid detection of offenses and assist in solving and preventing crimes.
Since the beginning of 2022, a facial recognition system has been operational at the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Operational Management Center, which has already allowed for the identification of more than 3,000 suspects in criminal activities and missing persons. Currently, over 3,000 cameras are conducting round-the-clock surveillance and processing data using artificial intelligence technologies.
This system effectively identifies faces even under conditions of wearing masks or glasses. When matches are detected, the information is automatically transmitted to operational services without delays.
In the future, as part of the "Safe Country" initiative, a phased installation of up to 20,000 modern video cameras is planned across the entire territory of the republic.
