The Mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, shared ambitious plans for improving the road transport infrastructure in the capital during a meeting of the board. In 2026, a project is expected to be implemented for the construction and reconstruction of 119 kilometers of road facilities and bridges.
According to the announced data, the project plans to:
- build 19 kilometers of new roads;
- reconstruct 100 kilometers of existing ones;
- construct 6 new bridges;
- create 1 road interchange with local resources.
Additionally, plans include the construction of 28 kilometers of sidewalks, as well as 20 underground and 3 above-ground pedestrian crossings.
It is worth noting that in 2025, 92 kilometers of roads were repaired in Bishkek, significantly exceeding the figures of previous years: in 2024, 62 kilometers were updated, and before 2023, the average construction volume was only 17 kilometers per year. Thus, the volume of road construction in 2025 increased fivefold compared to previous periods.
The mayor also emphasized a change in the approach to road construction: now, the replacement of engineering networks is carried out first, followed by construction and major repairs of the roads themselves.
As an additional initiative, a project for the creation of multi-level parking lots is being considered.
Recall that on February 12, a final meeting of the city administration was held at the Tunguch theater, chaired by Aydylbek Kasymaliev, head of the administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, dedicated to the socio-economic development of Bishkek in 2025 and the tasks set for 2026.
