A rare animal has become the focus of attention in the Talas Mountains.

As reported by ecologist Gamal Soronkulov, a group of researchers working on one of the projects was able to capture the Indian porcupine (Hystrix indica) in the Talas Mountains using camera traps. "Previously, we had noticed its tracks, but now we managed to capture the actual individual. The porcupine, upon seeing the camera, approached closer and knocked it over; however, it managed to take several pictures before that," he noted.

In the vicinity of the porcupine's burrow, resting spots in the sun, food remnants, and fragments of quills were also found. This species is one of the rare animals protected by the state according to the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan," concluded Soronkulov.
