The initiative to create the national award "Meikin" was launched in 2024 by the order of President Sadyr Japarov, with a total prize fund of 10 million soms. On March 6, a meeting was held in Bishkek with members of the media community led by Daiyrbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the presidential administration, to discuss the details of the preparations for the second competition.

Orunbekov noted that during the discussion, participants presented a number of ideas for improving the format of the competition. This year, 10 relevant nominations were chosen, but current realities require an expansion of the topics.

“We heard many initiatives. There are proposals to add new important topics to the list of nominations. Ideas were also expressed to improve the criteria for evaluating works and to clarify the requirements for participants,” he emphasized.

Daiyrbek Orunbekov added that a working group will be formed soon to determine the final format and timing of the competition. Currently, the collection and analysis of new proposals is underway.

The goal of the "Meikin" award is to support creative achievements in journalism, enhance the prestige of the profession, and stimulate the activity of media professionals.

It is worth noting that in 2024, approximately 250 works were submitted for the competition, resulting in the selection of 10 winners, each of whom received cash prizes totaling 10 million soms.
