“We noticed that swallows are flying in the sky above the 5th Hydroelectric Power Station. Usually, their appearance occurs no earlier than the end of March,” local residents reported.
This situation raises questions among citizens, who wonder: “What is happening to our nature?”.
According to ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky, such an early arrival of birds may indicate that spring is expected to be warm and early.
“Swallows feed on insects, which they catch both in the air and on the ground — from grass, branches, and even from the walls of buildings, using their unique flying abilities. Weather conditions significantly affect these birds, reducing the number of available insects. That is why swallows usually return later, when the frost-free period sets in,” he explains.
In Kyrgyzstan, migratory swallows appear at the end of March, while nesting ones arrive at the end of April. The period from nest building to the fledging of chicks is about two months.
According to A. Sosnovsky, there are 30 species of swallows in the world, of which 5 nest in Kyrgyzstan.
