According to local residents, the landfill is practically full.
“Specialized equipment has been waiting for a long time, resulting in solid waste being dumped outside the designated area. Additionally, there have been cases of garbage being burned right on site,” they said.
Previously, local authorities assured that the meat processing plant would start operating in March, but the situation has not changed, and tensions remain high.
“There is a threat of a new fire at the landfill, which could significantly harm the ecological situation and the health of the residents in the area,” they added.
Meanwhile, the press service of the Kant city administration provided the following official information: “We are aware of the situation at the Gagarin landfill, and it is under constant control. Utility services regularly use specialized equipment to maintain order in the area.
Currently, there is an increase in waste volumes, which has led to an increased load on the landfill. Nevertheless, all necessary work continues as usual and is not being suspended.
It is important to note that burning garbage is strictly prohibited, and such cases will be identified and stopped in accordance with established procedures,” the statement said.
