During a hunt in the mountains of the Chui region, a wild boar severely injured the dogs using its tusks.

With the onset of winter, when snow appears on the mountain slopes, wild boars often descend into the lowlands. This leads to frequent encounters with these dangerous animals, which requires hunters to exercise increased caution.

Sport hunter Vasily Zaitsev shared his experience: he and his friends went to the mountains for grouse, having obtained the necessary permits. “I usually take my West Siberian Laikas with me. Hunting with them in the mountains is always successful and exciting: Laikas can flush grouse out of the bushes and find wounded game. However, this time, when our dogs disappeared over the mountain ridge, we didn’t hear a sound. When they returned, I saw that both Laikas were covered in blood. One had a serious wound on its chest, and the other had a gash in its side. They likely encountered a sow with large piglets or, more likely, a powerful boar—a male—who seriously attacked them. We decided to end the hunt and urgently took the dogs to a veterinary clinic, where they received the necessary assistance. Fortunately, both Laikas survived,” Zaitsev said.
