Sarbagishev Uran Otunchievich - People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR


Kyrgyz and Soviet ballet artist, choreographer, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, professor, educator.

The name of the laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, Professor Uran Sarbagishev, is well known not only in the republic but also beyond its borders. He is a graduate of the Leningrad Choreographic School. One of the partners of the unparalleled Byubusara Beishenaliev. Thanks to the choreographer, Kyrgyz professional choreographic art gained nationwide recognition.

He was born on December 11, 1934, in the city of Frunze (now Bishkek). He grew up in an artistic family. His parents were among the founders of the Kyrgyz professional theater. From a very early age, Uran was a gifted child. In 1946, Sarbagishev entered the Leningrad Academic Choreographic School in the class of V.I. Shelkov, which he successfully graduated from in 1955. The artistic path of the choreographer began in August of the same year when he was enrolled as an artist in the Abdyla Maldybaev Opera and Ballet Theater. The most remarkable thing is that just four days later, Uran performed his first solo role in Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake." He immediately managed to establish himself as a highly professional dancer with an excellent academic background. The performance of his first roles revealed the great talent of the young artist and marked the beginning of a dizzying professional rise and the flourishing of his unique talent.

Uran Sarbagishev performed all the leading roles in classical ballet repertoire: "Swan Lake," "Sleeping Beauty," "Giselle," "Romeo and Juliet," "Don Quixote," "Don Juan," "Spartacus," and others. Uran's talent also shone in national performances: "Anar," "Kuyruchuk," "Asel," and many others.

In 1959, the remarkable duet of Beishenaliev and Sarbagishev performed the main roles in the film-ballet "Cholpon" produced by the Lenfilm studio. The film "Cholpon" successfully passed in 40 countries around the world, and Kyrgyz dancers gained worldwide fame. For 18 years, Bibisara Beishenaliev was the partner of Uran Sarbagishev - they were made for the stage.

Uran Sarbagishev toured widely, successfully performing at the most renowned venues and participating in numerous international festivals.

In 1966, Uran Sarbagishev was appointed the chief choreographer of the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater. He played a significant role in forming the Kyrgyz ballet troupe, with which Uran worked for over four decades.

Sarbagishev's mass dance composition "In the Mountains of Ala-Too" firmly entered the concert repertoire of the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater. Uran Otunchievich Sarbagishev became the author of a number of ballet performances that entered the treasury of world choreographic art. He created nearly forty unique choreographic productions, full-length and one-act ballets, ballet scenes in opera performances, and concert numbers. Composers K. Molchanov in the ballet "Macbeth," U. Musaev in "Tomiris," Ch. Nury mov in the ballet "Immortality," and K. Moldobasanov in the work "Tale of the Mankurts" entrusted him with the right to the first staging of their works. A special place in the creative biography of Uran Sarbagishev is occupied by the ballet-oratorio "Mother's Field" based on the novella of the same name by Chingiz Aitmatov. The performance was awarded the State Prize of the USSR and was subsequently successfully staged in many cities of the Soviet Union and abroad.

He was always distinguished by a fanatical attitude towards his work, high demands on himself and his creativity.

Uran Sarbagishev passed away due to a prolonged illness on February 19, 2012.
