Khusein Mukhtarovich Mukhtarov (Kyrgyz: Kuseyin Mukhtarov; 1938—2001)
Soviet and Kyrgyz opera singer (bass). People's Artist of the USSR (1984).
Born on July 18, 1938, in the village of Ken-Bulak, Chui Region, Kyrgyzstan.
He began studying vocals in 1956 at the Opera and Choral Studio of the Kyrgyz State Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1964, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor S. Migay and Associate Professor V. Guselnikov).
Since 1964, he was a soloist at the A. Maldybaev Kyrgyz State Opera and Ballet Theater. He performed in both national operas and operas by Russian and Western European composers.
He appeared in concerts, including with his wife — People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Esen Moldokulova. His chamber repertoire included not only numerous opera scenes and arias but also romances by M. Glinka, A. Borodin, P. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninoff, G. Sviridov, as well as songs from Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Dungan, and other peoples. He performed entire vocal cycles ("Ten Sonnets of Shakespeare" by D. Kabalevsky, "Songs of Robert Burns" by G. Sviridov, etc.).
He toured many cities in the USSR and abroad (Hungary, Poland, Canada, Syria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Yemen, Laos).
Mukhtarov Khusein passed away on March 5, 2001. He was buried in Bishkek at the Ala-Archa Cemetery.
