Cases of Chupacabra Attacks on Sheep Recorded in Kyrgyzstan
In Kyrgyzstan, efforts are underway to locate an unknown animal that is killing livestock. According to rumors circulating among the local population, it is said to be a chupacabra.
Searches for the creature are being conducted in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region (in the central part of the republic).
As reported by the director of the State Veterinary Inspection, Samir Osmonaliev, representatives from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, the hunting inspection, and veterinarians are involved in the search.
“So far, we have data on 26 heads of livestock and 13 chickens that have been killed by this creature. We are conducting appropriate measures. For example, raids are taking place in the Kochkor district. If the chupacabra is shot, we will examine its remains and the remains of the animals it has killed,” the official stated while reporting to parliament members.
Deputy Dastanbek Jumabekov noted that the local population is concerned. “People have contacted me, one animal appeared, it cuts the throats of animals at night and drinks their blood, not eating the meat. We call a creature that drinks blood a vampire. More than 100 heads of livestock have fallen,” he claims.
The parliamentarian added that local residents are already afraid to go outside. The representative in the Naryn region, Amanbay Kayipov, in turn, asked not to raise panic.
A headquarters has been established to investigate information about the unknown creature. According to “Radio Azattyk” (the local service of “Radio Free Europe”), a woman named Nasiyat saw it, although she could not see it well due to the darkness. “I went out at night and saw it eating chickens. Sensing me, it ran away. The next day, I saw scratches on the wall from three claws,” she reported.
Local residents have reported that the chupacabra lives in the cemetery area. As the representative reported, hunters have been engaged to verify this information. They, according to him, “together with the local police intend to use smoke grenades in the cemetery to try to lure this creature out, if it exists, and destroy it.”
A reward of five thousand soms (approximately 3,200 rubles) has been announced for the killing of the chupacabra. The police expressed the opinion that the panic among the local population could have been caused by stray dogs. Several dogs have already been shot against the backdrop of rumors about the chupacabra.
While in the Sokuluk district of the Chui region, the chupacabra traditionally drank the blood of animals, this time the unknown creature has puzzled the shepherds of the high-altitude pasture Besh-Belchir, located in the At-Bashinsky district, as the predator behaved strangely here.
It puzzled the shepherds precisely because this was a particular signature of attack on sheep for a chupacabra.
The unknown animal feasts only on the tails of sheep, tearing them off the unfortunate animals, and after its feast, leaves behind well-licked tail skins on the ground.
Here’s what elder Asankadyr Kurmanaliev told reporters from the local newspaper “Asman Plus”:
- I have been engaged in sheep farming for almost thirty years, since 1987, but I have never seen anything like this, that is, a predator attacking sheep just for the sake of the tail fat. For example, a wolf “cuts” a sheep by the neck, or opens the fillet part of the carcass with its teeth. A jackal grabs the skin and tears the animal apart. Sometimes even a badger attacks sheep, biting the animal by the insides and hind legs. But this is a special case. The affected sheep have not a single scratch, as if the chupacabra or whoever (what kind of mythical beast is this?) hypnotizes the animals, and they themselves present their tails for the feast. This has never happened to us before. It’s pure mysticism…
It should be noted that the shepherds have increased the protection of their flocks, but this has not helped. The chupacabra still visits at night and somehow manages to deprive the sheep of their tails. While a mass hunt for the mysterious animal has not yet begun, according to the elders, if this continues, they will have to call hunters to restore order in the high-altitude pastures.
On the other hand, the chupacabra might play into the hands of those promoting Jailyoo tourism, which has been gaining popularity in Kyrgyzstan since the end of the last century. However, recently interest in it has declined somewhat here. Therefore, it is possible that the chupacabra appeared in the high-altitude pastures not by chance – it is too strange and somewhat unconventional in its behavior, and it appeared surprisingly timely – just in time for the tourist season…
