At Lake Issyk-Kul and the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir, a winter bird count was conducted

During the winter period, a count of waterfowl and wetland birds was conducted at Lake Issyk-Kul and the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir. The event was organized by the Directorate of the Biosphere Territory "Issyk-Kul" in collaboration with the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, as reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Annually, during the winter, spring, and autumn seasons, eco-demographic monitoring of these birds and their habitats is carried out at Issyk-Kul. The collected data on the number and distribution of birds helps assess the condition of water bodies and the ecological balance in the region, and can also serve as indicators of the socio-economic situation.

Experts note that the bird count provides a unique opportunity to study wintering and migratory species inhabiting the Issyk-Kul region, which plays an important role in the migratory routes of Central Asia.

The agency emphasized that such events contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources, and the results of the counts serve as a scientific basis for making management and environmental decisions.
