PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than a human hair. It includes a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to the deterioration of air quality, which is typical for large cities.
According to the ranking, as of January 27, Bishkek ranks 38th in the world for air quality (5:00 PM).
