PM2.5 refers to solid particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. They are responsible for the deterioration of air quality typical of large megacities.
As of November 7, Bishkek ranks 10th in the world ranking for air quality and atmospheric pollution (as of 5:00 PM).
