PM2.5 refers to microscopic solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, their diameter is 30 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair. These particles are a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. They create the characteristic haze observed in large megacities.
In the global ranking of cities by air quality, as of November 4, Bishkek ranks 32nd (as of 5:00 PM).
