PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These include dust, ash, soot particles, as well as sulfates and nitrates that are airborne. These substances lead to reduced visibility, characteristic of large megacities.
On a global scale for air quality as of November 27, Bishkek ranks 23rd (as of 11:00).
