PM2.5 refers to particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. They include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the atmosphere. These elements create the characteristic haze observed in large metropolises.
As of November 18, Bishkek ranks 14th (11:00) in the global air quality and pollution ranking.
