PM2.5 refers to microscopic solid particles that are less than 2.5 microns in size. For comparison, their diameter is 30 times smaller than that of a human hair. PM2.5 consists of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances are the main culprits of pollution typical for large cities.
On the international stage, as of January 23, Bishkek ranks 77th (as of 11:00) in the air quality ranking.
