PM2.5 consists of fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns. Their diameter is 30 times smaller than a human hair. It is a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to the deterioration of air quality typical of large cities.
As of January 2, Bishkek ranks 21st in the world air quality and pollution ranking (11:00 AM).
