The government of Kyrgyzstan has approved the "road map" project for joining the Customs Union (CU). During the negotiations, an agreement was reached on certain preferences for the republic, said the Minister of Economy of the republic, Temir Sariev, on Monday.
On Monday, the government of Kyrgyzstan approved the "road map" project for joining the CU. The document has been submitted for parliamentary review. Earlier, the Kyrgyz side stated that it expects certain preferences for the republic's major markets, the creation of a special fund to support entrepreneurs, and financial assistance of about $200 million for equipping customs and border crossing points on the borders with China, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
"During the work on the 'road map' project with the working group of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), an understanding was reached regarding the provision of a certain transitional period for some of the CU agreements that Kyrgyzstan will not be able to implement immediately. There is an agreement that a list of goods will be determined, for which Kyrgyzstan will apply different customs duty rates, distinct from those of the CU for a certain period," the minister stated during a government meeting.
According to him, the "road map" includes aligning the republic's legislation with the CU agreements, infrastructure transformations, modernization, equipping the crossing points and laboratories, developing a mechanism for the allocation and distribution among the CU member states of the amounts of import customs duties, abolishing customs control at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border, and determining the timelines for the transitional period before the technical regulations of the Customs Union come into force.
In total, the republic will need to amend more than 90 regulatory legal acts.
The adoption of the "road map" will be carried out by a decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of the heads of state of the CU, Sariev reported.
