PM2.5 refers to fine particles that are less than 2.5 microns in size, which is 30 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair. These particles are a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They contribute to the deterioration of air quality characteristic of large cities.
According to the city ranking on January 18, Bishkek ranks third in the world for air pollution levels (5:00 PM).
