PM2.5 consists of microscopic particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles contain a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates, which are suspended in the air and contribute to air quality degradation, typical of megacities.
As of January 7, Bishkek ranks 8th in the world air quality and pollution level ranking (data as of 5:00 PM).
