The number of snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 550 individuals – Ministry of Natural Resources

As part of efforts to protect the snow leopard in Kyrgyzstan, a plan of activities has been developed until 2030. This became known during a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee, where Asel Rayimkulova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, spoke.

According to her, as a result of the measures implemented, the population of snow leopards in the country already exceeds 550 individuals.

“In order to improve the condition of protected natural areas, a corridor for the snow leopard has been created. Its area is 792 thousand hectares and includes regions such as Khan-Tengri, Sary-Chelek - Ertash, and the Naryn region. The list of specially protected areas also includes the reserves 'Baibosun', 'Kotormo', and the botanical park of the Academy of Sciences,” she added.
