A project to create a national carbon unit accounting system will be launched in Kyrgyzstan in the near future, as reported by the country's Ministry of Energy.

Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov discussed the details of the project implementation with experts from the World Bank, led by Maksudjon Safarov.

This project, which will be implemented under the iFIRST initiative, will be one of the first steps for Kyrgyzstan in the field of carbon financing. Its main goal is to develop the energy sector and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

A unique feature of this project is the results-based payment mechanism: funding will be provided only after confirming actual emission reductions.

If the project is successfully implemented, Kyrgyzstan could receive up to 4.5 million dollars, as well as attract an additional 5.5 million dollars through carbon markets. Additionally, technical assistance of up to 1.5 million dollars is planned. This will strengthen climate policy, modernize the energy sector, and enhance the country's environmental sustainability.
